Karen Nyamu Tops List of Young Senators Who Have Let Kenyan Youths Down
By Shadrack Nyakoe
Nominated senator Karen Nyamu tops the list of senators perceived to be contributing little to the country’s development.
Nyamu of UDA and her counterpart Hezena Lemaletian of ODM have been rated among the least committed leaders in the Senate.
A digital survey, which analyzed Parliamentary proceedings focusing on the moving of motions, tabling of bills, general debate, and attendance, ranks the two as among the worst-performing young nominated senators.
Karen Nyamu faced criticism from Gen Zs during a live X Space session with President William Ruto. She has been accused of focusing more on her social life, dancing and her love story involving her husband Samidoh and co-wife.
Lemaletian, known for her beauty and speaking prowess, was expected to adequately represent the needs and concerns of youths and women. She is a close friend of Mama Ida Odinga, who played a significant role in her nomination.
However, her presence in the Senate is minimal, with reports indicating she frequently travels abroad.
However, it is not all doom and gloom for nominated senators.
On the positive side, senators Gloria Orwoba and Crystal Asige have emerged as active and informed leaders.
Senator Orwoba has been praised for her persistent efforts in fighting societal taboos related to menstrual health among women, earning her international recognition.
Asige, a former soul musician, is known for her presence and contribution in Senate proceedings and has been a strong advocate for the rights of disabled people.
