Nairobi’s Chief Officer for Environment, Geoffrey Mosiria, Recognized for Outstanding Contributions to Public Health
The Commission on Administration of Justice (Office of the Ombudsman) has commended Geoffrey Mosiria, the Chief Officer for Environment in Nairobi City County, for his exceptional contributions to public health and hygiene.
In a letter of recognition, Commission Secretary Mercy Wambua praised Mosiria’s unwavering commitment to improving service delivery, citing his innovative initiatives as key factors in enhancing the quality of life for Nairobi’s residents.
His leadership in environmental management was particularly lauded, especially in addressing critical health concerns and promoting a cleaner, healthier environment.
“Through his leadership, Geoffrey Mosiria has demonstrated a strong dedication to safeguarding the well-being of Nairobi residents,” Wambua stated. “His proactive approach to environmental issues has made a lasting impact on public health.”
One of Mosiria’s recent achievements involved the closure of a gravel processing plant in Ngara, which had been operating without an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) audit or the required licenses.
The plant was found to be causing significant air pollution and discharging untreated effluent into the Nairobi River, prompting complaints from local residents about respiratory problems linked to dust from the facility.
Mosiria’s decisive action in shutting down the plant was praised by the Ombudsman’s office, which encouraged him to continue advocating for sustainable environmental practices and raising public awareness. His efforts to hold companies accountable for environmental violations have underscored his dedication to improving public health and hygiene in Nairobi.
