KCSE Certificates to Be Collected from Government Offices, Not Schools – CS Migos

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos has announced that students will now collect their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificates from government offices, specifically sub-county education offices, rather than directly from their schools.

This move, which has garnered widespread attention, is intended to address the longstanding issue of schools withholding certificates due to unpaid fees. For years, many students have faced delays in receiving their certificates after completing their exams because schools would hold them back if there were outstanding school fees. The new directive is aimed at ensuring that students are not denied their hard-earned certificates due to financial constraints.

The Ministry of Education believes that this change will provide a more equitable system, where students are not penalized for financial difficulties beyond their control. By shifting the responsibility for certificate distribution to the sub-county education offices, the ministry hopes to streamline the process and eliminate the practice of withholding certificates as a means of fee collection.

Education officials have urged students to be aware of the new procedure and to collect their certificates from the designated government offices once they are issued.

The ministry also emphasized that schools will no longer have the authority to withhold certificates, ensuring that all students, regardless of their financial situation, can access their academic records without unnecessary hindrances.

This change is expected to reduce the pressure on students and parents, allowing them to move forward with their academic or career aspirations without being held back by financial disputes with schools.
