Eastmatt Supermarkets has marked a significant milestone with the grand opening of its 11th branch in Baba Dogo, Ruaraka Constituency.
This expansion reflects the retailer’s ongoing commitment to serving underserved communities across Kenya by providing affordable, quality products and a convenient shopping experience.
During the event, Morris Kiunge, Eastmatt’s Head of Marketing, highlighted the retailer’s competitive edge. “Eastmatt stands out by offering some of the lowest prices among leading retail chains, delivering both choice and affordability to the people of Ruaraka,” he said. The new outlet boasts a “full basket” product offering, ranging from fresh foods and groceries to household essentials and baked goods, designed to meet the needs of price-sensitive consumers.
Teresa Mwangi, Eastmatt’s Human Capital Manager, spoke about the positive economic impact the branch is expected to bring. She noted that Eastmatt directly employs over 750 staff and supports many more through its supply chain.
Reflecting on challenges such as COVID-19-related delays, Mwangi described the successful launch of the Baba Dogo outlet as especially rewarding.
Local residents have already begun to welcome the new branch with enthusiasm. Anne Wangari, one of the first shoppers, praised the competitive pricing and diverse product range. “This is a game-changer for budget-conscious consumers like myself,” she said, emphasizing the branch’s role in supporting the community’s everyday needs.
Eastmatt’s CEO recounted the retailer’s growth journey, starting from its first outlet in Eastleigh in 1994 to its current nationwide presence.
Over the years, Eastmatt has become a trusted household name, overcoming challenges such as the 2018 fire that affected its Mfangano branch and adapting to customer needs with innovations like its popular milk ATM service.
The Baba Dogo branch, located in the bustling Utalii area, spans three floors, offering a comprehensive selection of products, from everyday essentials to premium home furnishings.
The new outlet is expected to attract customers from across Ruaraka and beyond, solidifying Eastmatt’s role as a key player in Kenya’s retail sector.
