Five people were fatally injured over the weekend in two separate banditry attacks in Isiolo and Samburu Counties.
The five include three civilians and two suspected bandits.
In a statement yesterday, the National Police Service (NPS) disclosed that in the first incident, an unknown number of suspected heavily armed bandits invaded manyattas in the Bojidare area of Isiolo at 2:30 a.m., firing gunshots.
NPS noted that two people lost their lives during the incident while three others were injured.
However, the police stated that all 300 goats stolen by the bandits were recovered, and 30 out of 250 cows stolen were also recovered.
In the second incident, NPS disclosed that at around 12:35 a.m. yesterday, an unknown number of suspected bandits armed with assault rifles invaded a home in the Hola Bule area, Isiolo, and began shooting.
One man was killed during the incident, while two other people, including a police officer, were injured.
“NPS and National Police Reserve (NPR) officers at the scene established that one man had been fatally shot, while two other persons, including an NPR officer, sustained gunshot wounds. The body has been moved to Isiolo County Hospital Mortuary for preservation.” NPS said in the statement.
In the third incident, the police intimated that two suspected bandits were shot dead at the River Waso area in Samburu East, Samburu County, and police recovered 211 cattle that had been stolen.
Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli visited Isiolo County on Sunday to assess the security situation and coordinate the operations in the area.
“Reinforcement teams from Isiolo Police Station, ASTU and NPR have been dispatched and investigations launched by DCI. NPS takes this opportunity to sincerely thank members of the public for their assistance in these three operations.” NPS stated.
