Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo Speaks at Pan African Youth Convention in Kenya

The Kenya School of Government (KSG) had the honor of hosting the former President of Nigeria, H.E. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, at the Pan African Youth Convention at the School in Lower Kabete.

Chief Obasanjo was warmly received by Director General Prof. Nura Mohamed, Chief Executive Officer of the Music Society of Kenya Dr. Ezekiel Mutua, and Executive Director of Youth Bridge Kenya Mr. Alex Matere.

In his keynote address on “Transforming Africa’s Economy: The Debt Challenge,” Chief Obasanjo emphasized the critical need for Africa to reassess its approach to handling debt to avoid falling into debt traps that stifle growth across the continent. He stressed that any debt incurred should focus on creating employment and wealth, free from corruption.

Chief Obasanjo also highlighted the unique position of Africa’s youth, noting that they are the most connected, dynamic, enterprising, vibrant, and entrepreneurial group in history.

“When our youth are well-guided and prepared, they have the ability to unleash power that will propel Africa’s political, social, and economic systems to the highest levels,” he said, adding that the future of the continent lies in the hands of its young people.

KSG Director General Prof. Nura Mohamed reiterated the importance of the youth agenda, acknowledging the pivotal role young people play in driving change across Africa. He emphasized the necessity of accountability and integrity in leadership to realize Africa’s vision.

“There is no transformation without truth. Transparency and accountability have to be seen in leadership in Africa. This is the change we need to realize the vision of Africa,” he stated.

The Pan African Youth Convention at KSG continues to foster discussions and engagements aimed at empowering Africa’s youth to take on leadership roles and drive sustainable development across the continent.
