By Shadrack Nyakoe
Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’oei has announced that the Ministry, in collaboration with the Africa4Haiti Initiative, will host a concert and Cultural Festival on Saturday, 24 August 2024, aimed at expressing solidarity with the people of Haiti.
During a press briefing on Wednesday, Dr. Sing’oei explained that the cultural event serves as a form of public engagement to gather opinion on Kenya’s deployment of police forces to Haiti.
“Kenya and Haiti share a deep bond rooted in mutual respect and cooperation. Our diplomatic relations have strengthened significantly over the years, and our involvement in the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission in Haiti underscores our commitment to global peace and stability. Kenyan forces have played a crucial role in maintaining security and supporting the Haitian government,” the PS remarked.
He further mentioned that the Kenyan police have successfully restored control over an airport, a police station, and a hospital that had been seized by an antigovernment gang- Revolutionary Forces of the G9 Family and Allies led by Jimmy Cherizier, also known as ‘Barbecue.’
“Africa and Haiti share historical and cultural connections,” Sing’oei added. “This event aims to highlight the rich cultural heritage of both regions and promote cooperation.”
Also in attendance at the briefing was Africa4Haiti Chief Information Officer Edward Muito, who outlined the initiative’s goals, which include addressing the complex challenges facing Haiti.
“Our objectives include providing humanitarian aid and development support, promoting cultural exchange and understanding between Africa and Haiti, and supporting Haiti’s recovery through sustainable development projects,” Muito stated.
He concluded by announcing, “We are proud to partner with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to host the Harmony4Haiti Concert and Cultural Festival on 24th August 2024. This event is more than just a celebration; it is a powerful demonstration of our solidarity with the people of Haiti and our commitment to their progress and prosperity.”
