Kenya Railways issues warning over fraudulent job adverts

Job Seekers have been warned about fraudulent advertisements on various platforms pretending to be Kenya Railways.

In a notice to the public, Kenya Railways noted that the adverts asking Kenyans to pay for the applications are fake and a scam of activities by a few individuals.

The Corporation emphasized that its adverts are only placed on its official website the government newspaper (MYGOV) and its verified social media.

The corporation urged members of the public to be vigilant and verify any job postings before engaging with recruiters’ adding that Kenya does not charge any fee for job applications or recruitment processes.

KRC stated that their official communications have their logo and official contacts placed on them.

The clarification by KRC comes barely a week after Kenya Railways cautioned Kenyans over a poster announcing mass job recruitment at the corporation.

In a statement last week, Kenya Railways flagged the advertisement as fake, maintaining that the advert did not emanate from it.

“We wish to alert members of the public about a fake job advertisement doing rounds on various social media platforms. We strongly advise job seekers to be cautious and verify any job adverts through our website,” Kenya Railways warned Kenyans.

The fake poster had directed job seekers to make their application for the over 500 job postings through a private email which was listed in the advert.

It also claimed that the corporation was seeking to recruit CCTV operators, security officers, electricians, transport operators, and record keepers to enhance operations.

Additionally, the fraudulent job listing included positions such as clearance and forwarding officer, data entry clerk, cleaner, driver, receptionist, store manager, and legal services manager.

This comes as today Kenya Railways announced plans to upgrade the Nairobi Commuter Rail Network with funding from the World Bank at Sh86.43 billion.

In a notice on MyGOV, Kenya Railways Corporation indicated that it plans to bid for funding as part of the Kenya Urban Mobility Improvement Project (KUMIP).
