The stage is set for the African Road Cycling Championship, which will take place from October 9 to 13 across Uasin Gishu, Nandi, and Elgeyo Marakwet counties in Kenya. The event is expected to attract over 20 countries, with top cyclists from across the continent, including Eritrean Tour de France Green Jersey champion Biniam Girmay, poised to compete.
Kenya Cycling Federation CEO Kelvin Mwangi, speaking on Citizen TV’s Sporty Monday programme, confirmed that all preparations for the championship have been completed. “Everything is well prepared, and the excitement is building up. We are pleased for the opportunity to host this prestigious event in the country,” said Mwangi.
Kenya will be represented by 42 cyclists, led by top cyclist and Team Kenya captain Nancy Akinyi Debe. The team has been training rigorously in Murang’a County and is prepared to compete against some of the continent’s best cyclists. “The team believes in themselves, and this has seen them harvest many medals in the past,” added Mwangi.
Mwangi also highlighted the significance of hosting the championship in Kenya, calling it a major milestone for the sport’s growth in the country. He noted that Eldoret City’s favorable climate and well-developed road network could help foster a cycling culture in the region. “The fact that the organizers trust us with the opportunity to host this event shows we are heading in the right direction,” Mwangi stated.
