In a significant breakthrough, authorities have apprehended Omar Ali Mohamed, a key suspect in the abduction and assault of well-known blogger Bruce John Khajira, also known as Chawa-001. Omar Ali was detained at the Lunga Lunga border while allegedly attempting to flee into Tanzania.
Ali, who had been evading capture since the incident on September 12, was reportedly tracked through an intensive joint effort by detectives and the Immigration Department. Sources say law enforcement had uncovered a plot by accomplices to smuggle the suspects out of the country, which ultimately led to Ali’s arrest.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), forensic analysis linked Ali to both primary and secondary crime scenes associated with Khajira’s abduction. Investigators also revealed that Ali had been in contact with other suspected perpetrators around the time of the crime, further implicating him in the disturbing incident.

One of the critical pieces of evidence in the case is a Nissan Note, grey in color, with registration number KDQ 394C, which detectives allege was used to transport Khajira from his residence to the crime scene. The vehicle had been rented by Ali on August 20 and returned on the evening of September 12, shortly after the crime took place. Law enforcement officials have since seized the vehicle.
Forensic experts placed the car at the primary crime scene, a Mombasa County Government construction site in the Bonje area, where it reportedly remained for two hours. Investigators believe this was where the assault took place, after which the vehicle was driven to Mwakirunge, where the victim was abandoned.
Ali is now in police custody and undergoing questioning. The DCI indicated that additional arrests are imminent, as several accomplices are still at large. Authorities have urged the remaining suspects to turn themselves in at the nearest police station or DCI office.
The DCI emphasized their commitment to justice, stating that all involved parties, regardless of their social standing, will face accountability.
