Ministry Donates Ksh 1.8 Million to Rising Stars After AFCON Qualification

The Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Arts, led by Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, has donated Ksh 1.8 million to the Rising Stars as a gesture of appreciation following their successful qualification for the AFCON Under-20 tournament. The prestigious event is scheduled to take place in South Africa next year.

Rising Stars head coach Salim Babu acknowledged the support from the government, emphasizing the importance of enhanced training as the team prepares for a more competitive stage. “We are entering a new level, and the government has been very supportive. It would be beneficial for the team to train abroad,” Babu remarked, stressing the need for pre-season preparations outside the country to boost the team’s performance.

Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretary Murkomen provided updates on ongoing efforts to improve sports infrastructure across Kenya. He highlighted the Ministry’s commitment to maintaining and renovating stadiums to support local talent development and enhance the country’s ability to host major tournaments.

In a strategic move to nurture young athletes, the Ministry will oversee the construction of 30 football academies across the nation. “We have developed standardized designs for these facilities,” Murkomen said, affirming the Ministry’s vision to create structured environments for talent development.

Murkomen also emphasized plans to collaborate with schools known for their strong sports traditions, with the aim of identifying promising players early and further enhancing sports facilities nationwide. “We will work with schools to enhance sports facilities and identify talent at a young age,” he added.

The Ministry’s comprehensive approach to sports development, from supporting national teams to investing in grassroots talent, signals a renewed focus on creating a robust sports culture in Kenya. With plans for new academies and improved stadiums, the government aims to ensure that young athletes have the facilities and support they need to succeed on the international stage.
