A twenty-five-year-old woman and her nine-year-old daughter have been admitted to the Embu Level Five hospital after the woman poisoned her two children and attempted to kill herself.
Her six-year-old died from the poison following the incident that occurred in Masinga, Machakos County on Monday.
The Police said both the 25-year-old woman and her nine-year-old daughter have been admitted to Embu Level 5 hospital, where they are receiving medication.
“The 25-year-old woman reportedly poisoned her two daughters aged nine and six years at Kaseve village in Kyondoni sub-location in Kivaa location, Masinga sub-county in Machakos. She also took the poison in an attempt to end her own life.” The police said.
The police report seen by Corporate Watch indicated that the residents are said to have heard screams emanating from a nearby bush and responded to the distress call only to find the three lying on the ground.
The trio were rushed to the Kyondoni dispensary and transferred to Kivaa health centre, both within the Masinga sub-county, where the six-year-old girl was pronounced dead.
The woman, together with her other daughter, were later transferred to Embu Level 5 hospital.
Police have launched investigations into the incident to identify the reason behind the woman’s actions.
