MP George Koimburi arrested for grilling over Sh13 billion remarks

Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi has been taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for questioning by the sleuths over his remarks that the government spent Sh13 billion on the failed Africa Union Commission Chairmanship bid.

Koimburi was arrested and apprehended after leaving his home in Kenyatta Road, Juja before being taken to the Mazingira complex along Kiambu Road.

Speaking minutes before his arrest, the legislator claimed that two Subaru vehicles were stationed outside his house.

Speaking on X, Koimburi’s friend and Kiambu Senator Karungu Thang’wa stated that the DCI is yet to reveal the reasons behind the arrest of the lawmaker.

“DCI at it again. They have arrested Juja MP George Koimburi. Reason? They are yet to say!” The senator said.

On Sunday, the Juja MP George Koimburi claimed that the government spent Ksh13 billion for the Raila AUC chairmanship bid.

“We are saddened after seeing President William Ruto spend 13 billion of taxpayers’ money, which could have been used for infrastructure, electricity, water, and people’s businesses so that Raila can be the AUC chairman,” Koimburi claimed.

The vocal critic of President William Ruto’s administration and an ally of the former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua further claimed that President William Ruto bribed other African heads of state to vote for Odinga.

“We are sad as a country because of seeing public funds being wasted by the government bribing other countries to vote for Raila Odinga as the AUC chairman in Addis Ababa. It is a shame seeing President Ruto trying to bribe other Presidents to vote for Raila and the money being used is public funds paid by taxpayers,” the lawmaker stated.
