Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has dismissed claims by firebrand lawyer Morara Kebaso that he was called and offered a job by President William Ruto.
Mwaura rubbished the claims calling out Kebaso to be honest.
“Morara Kebaso, I am not aware of any call from the President to you. Please examine your conscience and show some patriotism. I just bumped into you at KICC like any other fellow citizen. Be honest with yourself,” Mwaura said in an X post.
Kebaso, who has gained nationwide fame for fact-checking the projects launched by President Ruto, alleged that he received a phone call from the president, persuading him to take a job offer.
He, however, said he declined the offer, promising to continue his role in holding the government to account and essentially branding himself as the official opposition leader.
This led to a clash between the lawyer and State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed during an interview with local media yesterday.
“It’s unbelievable, I’m just shocked at what the gentleman, Morara, is saying. I wonder why he would lie on national TV that the President called him, it’s ridiculous that I have to respond to this…For the record, such a call never happened, it’s a figment of his imagination.” Hussein said asking the firebrand lawyer to substantiate his claims.
Kebaso responded by invoking Mwaura’s name, saying that he knew the phone call happened. He also said that the issue is distracting Kenyans from the matters of importance that lie in fighting for good governance.

“I am not going to follow the footsteps of those leaders who used to record the president or put him on loudspeaker to prove a point. I don’t think it’s good manners. For that reason, I will not focus on proving whether or not it happened. Isaac Mwaura knows it happened.” Kebaso said.
“William Ruto knows it happened. End of story. Let’s focus on kutengua mahali ametenga. The call is not of any importance in the fight for good governance and end of corruption. Let’s not divert the conversation. The nation knows who the liar is between me and William Ruto.”
