Nairobi County Boxing Team Unveiled Ahead of the Uganda Match

Governor Sakaja earlier today flagged off the Nairobi city county boxing team as they set off to represent the city in a competition in Uganda.

In his speech, during the flagging off, the governor expressed his pride in the boxing team and their dedication to representing the city and assured them of his support during the competition and after.

He also took the opportunity to point out the major strides that have been made in sports development in Nairobi City County, with the ongoing construction of modern stadiums such as Joe Kadenge Stadium formerly known as City Stadium, Kihumbuini stadium, Woodley stadium, and Mwiki Stadium.

“These stadiums, once completed, will not only enhance the city’s sports infrastructure but also put Nairobi on the map as a hub for sports development.” Governor Sakaja said

Governor Sakaja also announced his plans to construct seventeen (17) social halls in every subcounty, fully equipped with the necessary equipment for a boxing team, and equip them with boxing rings.

This is to ensure that every subcounty has the opportunity to participate in boxing competitions.

“Apart from promoting a healthy lifestyle, sports also brings people together, provides opportunities for the youth and helps in the fight against drug abuse and crime.” he added.

To ensure the success of these sports development programs, the governor requested the members of the county assembly to increase the budget allocated to support the boxing teams.

This will enable the boxing teams to access the necessary training, equipment, and resources needed to compete at the highest level.
