Nakuru: Eight dead after van rammed into a stalled truck

Eight people have died and several others suffered serious injuries in an early Tuesday morning road accident at Ngata Bridge in Nakuru County.

The accident occurred after a van rammed into a stalled truck along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway at around 5:30 a.m.

Eyewitnesses who were among the first responders to the scene said they retrieved the bodies of six adults and two children from the wreckage.

A preliminary police report indicates the private van was ferrying over 15 people to Kisii for an event.

As of 7 a.m., police said only one person had been confirmed to have survived. The survivor was a woman whose legs were broken.

Witnesses said the truck had been stalled at the spot for the last three days.

County Police Commander Samuel Ndanyi confirmed the incident, saying bodies have been moved to the Nakuru Annex Funeral home.

“We are yet to confirm how many people have survived the accident. The bodies of the deceased have been moved to the Annex Hospital as we launch investigations into the cause of the accident.” Ndanyi said.

“I plead that drivers be keen while on the road especially this rainy season.” He advised.
