Police officer arrested, gun recovered over the shooting of US embassy Nairobi employee

Three people including a police officer have been arrested in connection to the shooting incident where a US embassy employee died outside a popular night club in Kiambu.
Confirming the arrest, Kiambu County commander Micheal Muchiri said that a firearm which was used during the incident has been recovered.
“We apprehended a third suspect who is a serving officer and a gun has also been confiscated which is said to have been fired to kill a young man.” The county commander stated.
Muchiri said homicide detectives at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters have taken over the investigations.
Yesterday, two people were taken to court where the investigating officers sought for more time so that they can conclude investigating the murder case and the third person will also be taken to court today.
The Kiambu court issued 10 days for the officers to conclude investigations.
The investigating officer Peter Kingawi had applied to be given 20 days.
The 36-year-old Anthony Njomo who was an electrician at the US embassy died from the shooting incident over the weekend.
He is said to have been hit by a stray bullet while standing across a road while speaking on the phone near the nightclub.
According to the police report seen by Corporatewatch, a scuffle is said to have ensued outside the club which is yet to be established what it was all about when a gunshot was heard with those in the scuffle scampering for safety.
David Njomo a spokesperson of the family of the late Njomo said that they are devastated by the death of their Kin terming it as unfortunate since he was just a bystander when the bullet hit him dead.
“We were shown the CCTV footage taken by the club outside and it shows our kin was speaking on the phone a few meters outside the club. All of a sudden people were seen fighting and a man holding a gun was seen firing. The next thing we see our kin falling.” He explained.
The family stated all they want is justice since the shooter can be seen clearly from the footage.
“Let no stone be left unturned by police. We want our kin to get justice since he is innocent.” They said.
