He also ordered the cancellation of the Adani-Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) deal that was announced a few months ago but stopped by the court.
“I now direct in furtherance of the principles enshrined in Article 10 of the Constitution on transparency and accountability, and based on new information provided by our investigative agencies and partner nations – that the procuring agencies within the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum immediately cancel the ongoing procurement process for the JKIA Expansion Public Private Partnership transaction, as well as the recently concluded KETRACO transmission line Public Private Partnership contract.” Ruto stated.

He further directed the relevant procurement officers to seek other private companies interested in the project.
The orders by the president come a few hours after the Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi announced that the KETRACO deal would proceed regardless of the indictment of Adani in the US.
Andayi stated that Adani’s indictment in a multi-million scheme to bribe Indian officials was not related to the deal with KETRACO.
Kenyans woke to the news today that Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani was indicted in the U.S. for allegedly orchestrating a scheme to bribe Indian officials with over $250 million to secure lucrative solar energy contracts.
The indictment includes charges of securities fraud and conspiracy, asserting that Adani and his associates misled U.S. investors about their compliance with anti-bribery laws while raising funds for their projects.
However, the company refuted the claims saying it will seek all legal avenues in handling the matter.
