Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has refuted claims that he is among the Kenyan team sent by the government to negotiate the repatriation of 37-year-old Margret Nduta.
Sonko stated that the video doing rounds on social media purporting that he was in Vietnam is an old video of him with Chinese officials at his office in Nairobi.
In the video shared on TikTok, the claims were that the former City politician was in the Asian Country to address the looming execution of Nduta.
“I have seen a fake story making rounds on TikTok that I have landed in Vietnam to stop Margaret Nduta’s execution. It is from a blogger who is alleging that I am in Vietnam. This is not Vietnam. From the photo, you can see my office watch and the background. The people in the photo are not even Vietnamese; they are Chinese,” Sonko explained.
Further, Sonko pleaded with President William Ruto to help intervene in the situation of Nduta as he called for the arrest of the main suspect involved in the peddling of the hard drugs she was arrested with.
According to Sonko, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations together with other investigating authorities need to go through the suspects’ phone and ensure all the suspects are brought to book and charged together with her.
His remarks come hours after the Foreign Affairs PS Korir Sing’Oei revealed that Kenyan ambassadors in Thailand have been sent to negotiate a stay in the execution of the 37-year-old lady from Murang’a.
This is the latest development following a Phone conversation between Sing’out and Vietnam deputy Foreign Affairs minister Nguyen Minh Hang over the case of Ndurs
In a statement after the conversation, Sing’oei said that the deputy foreign affairs minister assured him that the petition of Kenya was under consideration.
“Had a telephone conversation this afternoon with my counterpart, Nguyen Minh Hang, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, over the matter of Margarel Nduta,” he stated.
“I conveyed to Madam Hang the anxiety of the Kenyan people over the impending execution of our national and reiterated our request for a siay of execution to allow our two countries to find a path to resolving the issue,” the PS added.
The move came after Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka and Embakasi East Member of Parliament Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino appealed to President William Ruto to help save her.
