SportPesa Foundation supports Lunga Lunga Health Centre

Lunga Lunga Health Center Facility-in-Charge Sister Ann Maru, Chairman Joshua Oraga and Makadara Sub County Pharmacist Dr. Christine Onuko receive Ksh1.7 million maternity equipment from SportPesa CEO Ronald Karau.

The Foundation donated eight beds for the labour ward, 10 baby cots, two delivery beds, an incubator and laundry room equipment.

SportPesa Foundation has supported Lunga Lunga Health Centre to a tune of Ksh1.7 million as part of its contribution in making the facility’s new maternity wing functional.

The SportPesa Foundation delivered various donations to equip the hospital’s new maternity block constructed by Nairobi Metropolitan Services. The Foundation donated eight beds for the labour ward, 10 baby cots, two delivery beds, an incubator and laundry room equipment.

“We support the initiative by NMS to increase capacity in the sub-counties to ease pressure on the public referral hospitals and also improve access to healthcare in Nairobi’s informal settlements. SportPesa remains committed to supporting maternal health care to help women access quality services easily,” said SportPesa CEO Captain Ronald Karauri.

“This is the third such facility we are supporting in three months and remain committed to partnering with similar facilities across different counties.”

Lunga Lunga Health Centre in Industrial Area mainly supports patients from informal settlements of Mukuru, especially Mukuru kwa Njenga. The government embarked on building the in-patient maternity wing to facilitate 24-hour all-round maternal health services.

“In the past, we purely catered for outpatients only, but with this new block, we project up to 500 deliveries per month once it is complete. The donation today from SportPesa Foundation will go a long way in enabling us to support the surrounding settlements,” said Anne Maru, the Facility-In-Charge at the Lunga Lunga Health Centre.

SportPesa Foundation is committed to supporting communities in sports & education, maternal care and ending period poverty by promoting menstrual hygiene projects. The donation comes weeks after a similar one worth Ksh1.3 million to Riruta Health Centre and Kshs800,000 in support of Bomet County’s Ndarawetta Dispensary’s new maternity wing.
