Team Blue Dominates FKF County Elections with Wins in 28 Regions

By Shadrack Nyakoe

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) County Level Elections concluded successfully on Thursday, November 14, 2024, with Team Blue, led by FKF president Nick Mwendwa and deputy Doris Petra, emerging victorious in 28 counties. The sweeping win places Team Blue in a strong position heading into the upcoming national elections.

Preliminary results indicate that chairpersons aligned with Petra and Mwendwa’s Team Blue were elected in 29 counties, while Team Fresh, led by Extreme Sports CEO Hussein Mohammed, secured control of 14 counties.

Three counties remained undecided, with Kakamega Homeboyz chairman Cleophas Shimanyula managing to secure one county for his preferred candidate.

In the critical Nairobi region, the vote was split between the two camps: Dickson Doyo of Team Blue claimed the Nairobi East branch chairmanship, while Hussein’s candidate won the Nairobi West branch.

Additionally, in six counties where chairpersons ran unopposed, four candidates were aligned with Petra and Mwendwa.

Counties where Team Blue secured victories include Nairobi East, Kitui, Narok, Kilifi, Taita Taveta, Kericho, Busia, West Pokot, Bungoma, Kirinyaga, Makueni, Samburu, Tana River, Tharaka Nithi, Kisii, and more. Notably, most incumbent FKF county chairpersons were re-elected, although there were exceptions, such as in Mombasa, where the chairperson, affiliated with former FKF General Secretary Barry Otieno, lost the seat.

The elections, initially scheduled for last Saturday, were delayed until Thursday after the High Court lifted orders that had temporarily blocked the county-level voting.

As of now, voting has been completed in most counties, with results transmitted from Elgeyo Marakwet, Bomet, Bungoma, Nandi, Vihiga, Busia, Migori, Lamu, Kisii, West Pokot, Kisumu, Machakos, Embu, Kakamega, Narok, and Samburu. However, elections in Homabay, Turkana, and Mandera have been rescheduled, and repeat elections will be held in Nyandarua and Vihiga due to ties in key positions.

The FKF election process continues, with the remaining counties expected to complete their voting in the coming days, setting the stage for the national FKF leadership elections.
