Three kids were killed after an inferno at their house in Yamumbi, Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
Confirming the incident, Kapseret police boss Zephania Kamren said the children who died included a girl aged 1 and half years and two boys aged 3 and 8 years old respectively.
Kamren said the children were sleeping alone in the house as their mother had gone out in town for night duties.
The police boss said the children were burned beyond recognition due to the incident during the midnight incident .
“We are investigating the cause of the fire and the children were burned badly along with all other property in the house.” Kamren said.
Onesmus Githinji who is the grandfather of the children said he had visited them last night and found the children without their mother who is his daughter.
However, he said he found a strange woman in the house who claimed to be a friend of the mother of the deceased children.
Githinji said he asked the woman to leave the house after which he checked and saw a jiko in the one-roomed house but it was not lit.
“Before I left the house I checked to see if they were alright and then pulled the door to lock but not completely.” He explained.
The grandfather claimed that the fire must have been started by someone for unknown reasons.
He said he had been frequently visiting the house where she always found the children alone.
“I have gone through a lot to bring up these children and it’s unfortunate they have died in the fire.” He said.
Kamren asked parents to be close to their children and warned of action against those who neglect children.
