Kenya Holds its Inaugural County Peer Review Mechanism Summit
By Shadrack Nyakoe
Nepad-APRM hosted fourteen governors at their first summit held at KICC, Nairobi, to review best practices in their counties.
Among the governors present were Mutahi Kahiga of Nyeri County, Fernandes Barasa of Kakamega County, Simba Arati of Kisii County, Abdulswammad Nassir of Mombasa County, and James Orengo of Siaya County.
The peer-to-peer review was voluntary, with twelve counties participating and 36 counties represented.
Africa Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) CEO Ambassador Samori Okwiya stated, “The process involved generating a self-assessment report by the citizens of the respective counties. These reports help governors learn from each other on governance issues, adopt best practices, and improve service delivery.”
Governors identified challenges such as finances, Early Childhood Development (ECD), public participation, land, and health services delivery.
Achievements of Peer Review Mechanism included innovation, digitalization, and improved communication between citizens and leaders.
The report will be shared with the president, who will present it at the APRM Heads of State Summit during the African Union General Assembly in April 2025.
