Safaricom will be refunding transaction fees for every first M-Pesa send money transaction for today in celebration of 24 years since their inception.

The telecommunication company stated that the promotion is for only a single day.

“Thank you for 24 years. Get your transaction fee refunded for the first send-money transaction today. The promotion ends today” They said in an X post.

This comes four years after the giant telco awarded its customers up to twenty minutes of free call to celebrate their two decades since inception.

Each customer received a notification a day before to alert them of their free call. Customers who had been on the Safaricom network for 20 years as well as customers received a free 20GB data bundle valid for 7 days.

Customers purchasing personalized Tunukiwa voice offers also received a free 20-minute call across all networks.

“In the past two decades, Safaricom has grown from a telecommunication service provider to a technology company and our customers have been a key part of this journey. We are cognizant that technology and a data-driven economy can further support Kenya’s economic growth and these will be our launch pad for the next 20 years.” Safaricom Chief Executive Officer Peter Ndegwa stated when they celebrated 20 years.

Early this year, Safaricom announced a Sh 139.9 Billion in its earnings before interest and tax in the period ending March 31, 2024.

At a group level, incorporating the startup costs and investments in Safaricom Ethiopia, the group closed at an EBIT of Sh94.9 billion, a 3.5% growth year on year.

The earnings surpassed both the market expectations and the group guidance range of Sh129 billion-132 billion.

“This performance was driven by customer segmentation, public sector digitization, investments in new technologies, and better use of data and analytics to understand and serve customers better.” They said.
