Nearly 150 Equity Bank customers and staff gathered at the prestigious Karen Country Club in Nairobi for the 2024 Equity Golf Tournament, marking the end of a successful year with a day of friendly competition and camaraderie.
Chrispine Sankale emerged as the tournament’s overall winner, claiming the title of best golfer. Elijah Adul and Ndirangu Kariuki followed closely as first and second runners-up, respectively. The event fostered a sense of community, with Equity customers and staff playing side by side in a relaxed yet competitive atmosphere.
During the awards ceremony, Equity Bank Kenya Managing Director Moses Nyabanda lauded the participants for their enthusiastic involvement. “This tournament was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the past year at Equity Bank and connect with our valued customers,” he remarked. He highlighted the bank’s long-standing relationships with many of the participants, noting the financial growth that some customers had experienced since first engaging with Equity.
Mr. Nyabanda also emphasized Equity Group’s comprehensive approach to financial services, which extends beyond traditional banking to include insurance, investment, and digital financial solutions. He reaffirmed the Group’s commitment to meeting the evolving needs of its customers.
The event also recognized standout performers. Richie Sobayeni, Equity Group’s Head of CX Design, was named the best staff golfer. Among the customers, Rose Catherine claimed two honors as the longest drive champion and top player of the first nine holes.
Norman Waithaka led the second nine holes, while Muthoni Muturi and Raymond Nyamweya took home the nearest-to-the-pin awards for the ladies’ and men’s categories, respectively. Hillary Langat secured the longest drive title in the men’s division.
Reflecting on the event, Rose Catherine praised Equity’s initiative, drawing a parallel between the interactive nature of golf and the importance of understanding customer needs in banking. She noted the sense of unity within the golfing fraternity and shared her joy in playing alongside fellow Equity customers Mary Mungai, Engineer Joe Ngacha, and Muthoni Muturi.
Joseph Kimani, another participant, expressed his gratitude for being sponsored by what he called his “home” — Equity Bank. He described the event as a unique and meaningful experience, expressing hope that it would become an annual tradition for Equity customers.
The Equity Golf Tournament 2024 exemplified the bank’s commitment to strengthening customer relationships beyond financial services. By blending sport, connection, and celebration, the event underscored Equity’s customer-first philosophy and its goal of fostering lasting partnerships with its clients.
