Kakamega County First Lady Prof. Janet Kassilly, who also serves as the Director of the Prof. Janet Barasa Foundation has emphasized the need to initiate more interventions aimed at protecting widows.
Speaking in Malava Sub-County where the hosted hundreds of widows, she noted that widows are often overlooked in government programs, underscoring the importance of supporting them, especially through CHAMAs.
“While the society celebrates, widows are often forgotten. I am committed to walking with you on the journey to empowerment,” she affirmed.
Regarding protection of their rights, she advised them to report to authorities whenever their rights are violated for action.
On economic empowerment, the First Lady encouraged the widows to register for county social grants before the deadline this Friday, 7th February 2025.
The initiative is spearheaded by the Prof. Janet Barasa Foundation with the support of esteemed partners.
