A Kenya Defence Soldier died after being stoned on the head after an altercation outside a bar in the Mirema area of Kasarani Nairobi.

The soldier identified as Kevin Ndung’u of Moi Airbase died while undergoing treatment at the Defence Memorial Hospital yesterday; three days after he was transferred there from a hospital in the Kasarani area where he had been rushed earlier on.

Ndung’u was found lying unconscious near the club and surrounded by bodaboda riders minutes after he had been hit.

The riders told police Ndung’u had been at the club with friends on August 31 when an altercation broke out past midnight.

They got out and one of the “friends” hit Ndung’u on the head with a stone leaving him unconscious in a trench.

The assailant and his friends escaped the scene leaving him for death.

Police who visited the scene minutes later rushed him to Jesse Kay Hospital along Lumumba Drive where the deceased was identified as a KDF soldier and was later transferred to Defence Forces Memorial Hospital where he died.

Police on Wednesday said they have opened murder investigations into the death of the soldier.

His colleagues reported he had succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment.

A team visited the scene where he was initially found lying unconscious as part of the probe.

The team has also talked to staff at the club as part of efforts to trace the said assailants.

Police said they are also reviewing security cameras in the area as part of the probe into the incident.

No arrests have been made but police said they are pursuing good leads into the incident.
