Migori: 78-year-old granny stabbed to death by Tanzanian groundsman

Police in Akoko Village Migori County have launched investigations into the killing of a 78-year-old who was found dead in her house.

The body of the elderly woman identified as Gaudensia Akumu Madenje was discovered by her grandson who had come home for a lunch break from school.

The area assistant Chief John Kerry Otieno said they suspect the lady might have been killed by her grounds man who hails from Tanzania.

Otieno said the groundsman who is the main suspect escaped to an unknown hideout saying that they are still looking for him. He said the motive of the killing has not been established.

The Assistant Chief said the grandson said he spoke with the grandmother in the morning when he left for school and she was in good condition.

“The grandson said his grandmother was well when he left for school. We do not know what transpired later but the police have launched a manhunt for the main suspect whose whereabouts are currently not known.” Otieno said.

The police said the body of the deceased had multiple injuries and there was evidence that the deceased was struggling with the killer before she died.

“There were signs of a struggle between the killer and the deceased when police checked the crime scene. She had multiple stab injuries.” The police said.

Meanwhile the area Assistant chief has appealed to the residents to ensure that they take the details of anybody they employ as a groundsman and maid.

He said the details should also be shared with the area chief for easy trace in cases of such incidents. The family of the deceased does not have the proper details of the prime suspect who hails from Tanzania. Police headed by the county commissioner have launched a manhunt for the main suspect
