Unregistered M-pesa users will not be able to receive money effectively today. In a press statement released on Saturday, mobile service provider Safaricom announced that registered M-Pesa users will be able to send and receive money effortlessly, even when engaging with different mobile money providers such as Airtel and T-Kash.

“Effective February 5th, 2024, you will no longer be able to send money from M-PESA to unregistered mobile money customers. As a registered mobile money customer, you will be able to send and receive money across different mobile money providers such as Airtel and T-Kash.” The statement read in part.

Safaricom customers who have not yet registered for mobile money have been urged to promptly do so. The process is simple, requiring a visit to any Safaricom Shop or M-Pesa Agent with a valid Identity Document.

“We encourage customers who are not registered for mobile money services to register by visiting a Safaricom Shop or M-PESA Agent with their Identity Document.” Safaricom urged. The move is aimed at ensuring a secure and accountable money transfer system.

This development reflects Safaricom’s commitment to providing a safe and efficient financial platform for its users, ensuring a smoother and regulated experience for all.
