Joseph Irungu alias Jowie will know his fate today after he was found guilty of the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani.
This comes after Lady Justice Grace Nzioka postponed Jowie’s sentencing last week Friday stating that changes were made because crucial documents that would have assisted the court in concluding its final decision were filed late.
Nzioka who was speaking during a session at the Milimani Law Courts also took issue with the change of counsel by the accused and his lawyer not filing a mitigation report as expected.
He was found guilty of the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani on February 9, 2024.
The court, in a ruling rendered by Justice Grace Nzioka, found that businesswoman Monica Kimani did not die a natural death, but was rather killed as proved by the prosecution.
“It is the finding of this court that the first accused person (Joseph Irungu) murdered Monica Kimani. I find the first accused person guilty as charged.” She ruled.
“Monica Kimani didn’t die a natural death nor an accidental death. Therefore, this is a clear case of homicide. The finding of this court is that the prosecution has proved that the death was unlawful.” She added.
During the Judgment last month, dated 9th of February 2024, Maribe was acquitted and Irungu was found guilty.
During the trial, the prosecution called a total of 36 Witnesses and all the accused persons were out on a bond of Sh2 million plus one surety.
After the judgment, Irungu’s bond was canceled, and had been remanded at Industrial Area prison.
The DPP has since filed an appeal against the acquittal of Maribe.
