MCA Absalom Matach Urges SRC To Cut Public Wage Bill Amid Pay Hike Controversies

Nairobi county assembly Azimio MCAs have called on the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) to propose strategies for slashing the public wage bill to curb government spending.
Led by Korogocho Ward MCA Absalom Odhiambo alias Matach, the law makers urged the SRC to clarify the salary hikes, arguing that it would be unwise for State Officials to accept the pay increase.
“We don’t agree with your salary increment, why now? Don’t add people salary yet they are doing nothing in parliament except inflicting more pain and burden on the taxpayer,” he Said.
Korogocho Ward MCA further condemned the move by the Commission to recommend an increase in salaries for various senior state officials saying national assembly speaker and Senate speakers have less work to be added more money.
“This unwarranted action is grossly insensitive, tone-deaf and should be loudly condemned and unequivocally declined,” he added.
Speakers of the National Assembly and Senate will each take home Sh1,208,362 monthly up from Sh1,185,327.
This comes amid anti-government protests against misuse of public properties, corruption and misconduct among politicians and public officers.
“The Generation Z wave will not rest until the taxpayer will stop being overburdened. President William Ruto you are failing Kenyans who elected and those who didn’t by going against their will. Listen to mwananchi who is your boss,” stated the agitated ward rep.
