Lands CS Alice Wahome and PS Nixon Korir Issue Over 37,000 Title Deeds in Historic Meru Event

Mutuati, Meru County, September 4, 2024 – In a landmark event, Lands CS Alice Wahome and PS Nixon Korir issued over 37,000 title deeds to residents of Igembe North and Igembe South, fulfilling a decades-long promise.

Residents of Igembe North, including Amwathi Mutuati I ‘A’, Antuambui II, Naathu B, Amungeti B, Amwathi Mutuati II ‘C’, and Lower Athiru Gaiti, gathered at KK Baithai Primary School to receive 32,000 title deeds, marking the end of a wait that began in the 1970s.

The ceremony, presided over by CS Alice Wahome and PS Korir, saw another 5,000 titles issued at Tumutumu Market in Igembe South. CS Wahome assured the community that the Ministry would soon establish a new registry in the area to better serve the people and announced plans for a land clinic to address ongoing title deed issues.

“We have 100,000 titles ready for distribution across the country, with another 100,000 in the pipeline,” said CS Wahome, highlighting the government’s commitment to resolving long-standing land issues. The CS also revealed plans to issue an additional 7,000 titles in Tharaka Nithi County next week.

PS Korir emphasized the Ministry’s dedication to surpassing its targets in title issuance as directed by President William Ruto. He also promised to rectify thousands of titles issued in previous years and address complaints about the Maua Registry.

The event was attended by local leaders, including Igembe North MP Julius Taitumu, Igembe South MP John Paul, Buuri MP Mugambi Rindikiri, and Meru Women Rep Kailemia Karambu. Buuri MP Rindikiri expressed gratitude to the government for finally addressing a decades-old issue and urged Kenyans to be patient as the Kenya Kwanza Government works to correct past mistakes.

CS Alice Wahome also touched on affordable housing, stating that the Ministry is collaborating with elected leaders to develop affordable housing in the region
