Beijing and Nairobi Strengthen Ties, Collaborate on Technology, Health and Environmental Projects

The Vice Mayor of Beijing, Mr. Ma Jun, led a delegation focused on health, science, technology, and education during a courtesy visit to Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja at City Hall.

Sakaja commended the strong partnership between Nairobi and China, particularly their collaboration on the ongoing Nairobi River regeneration project.

“We have much to learn from China, and we value the partnership. They are leading the effort to clean and regenerate the Nairobi River,” Sakaja noted.

He also highlighted Nairobi’s openness to further partnerships with China across various sectors, including technology and waste management.

“We plan to convert the tonnes of garbage collected daily into electricity using advanced technology. We are eager to collaborate with like-minded entities, and China is more than welcome,” the Governor added.

Vice Mayor Ma Jun reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to supporting Nairobi’s development agenda, expressing China’s interest in partnering with the county government in sectors such as technology, education, science, and health.
