KAA Champions Reforestation in Support of National Tree Planting Initiative

The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) is proud to take significant strides in environmental sustainability by actively participating in the Government of Kenya’s ambitious initiative to plant 15 billion trees by 2032.

This national effort aims to increase the country’s forest cover from 12% to 30%, addressing critical challenges related to climate change and biodiversity loss.

This week, KAA held a successful tree planting event at Rangwa Hills in Mbita, Homa Bay County. Under the leadership of Mr. Wycliffe Kadoya, Officer in Charge of Kabunde Airstrip, the team planted an impressive 5,000 tree seedlings.

Additionally, in September, KAA engaged with local schools by planting trees at Kotieno Gumba School, Wangadonji Comprehensive School, and Oriang’-Otok School in Homa Bay.

These initiatives not only support the government’s reforestation goals but also reflect KAA’s commitment to enhancing ecological health throughout the region.

KAA’s dedication to reforestation is evident in its ongoing initiatives across the country.

To date, the authority has successfully planted over 67,500 trees in various regions, including Uasin Gishu, Western, Coast, and Nairobi.

These efforts are part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at restoring vital ecosystems and improving forest cover nationwide.

Aligned with President William Ruto’s directive for all ministries to contribute to national afforestation efforts, KAA recognizes that these actions are essential for mitigating the impacts of climate change, which have led to severe droughts and flooding across the nation.

In addition to community engagement, KAA is committed to enhancing its own facilities through tree planting initiatives.

By integrating sustainable practices into its operations, the authority demonstrates its resolve to promote environmental stewardship within its organizational framework.
