A businessman from Kaloleni, Kilifi County, has accused a local chief of ‘stealing’ his wife, sparking a dispute that has seen him seek justice from multiple authorities.
Alfred Menza, who primarily resides in Nairobi, claims his wife, Christine Abisack, left their home in May 2024 after 18 years of marriage and three children.
He later discovered she was allegedly living with the area chief.
Menza, who married Abisack under customary law in 2006, says he has reported the matter to various government offices, including the registrar of marriages and the Interior Ministry.
He also lodged a complaint with Kaloleni police, alleging threats from unidentified individuals warning him to abandon the case.
In his complaint, Menza insists that since he and his wife have not divorced or legally separated, her alleged relationship with the chief should not be recognized.
He claims that initially, the chief rented her a separate house before eventually moving in with her, leaving their children to fend for themselves.
When contacted, Senior Chief Thoya neither confirmed nor denied the allegations, accusing Menza of tarnishing his reputation.
“If he has complaints, let him come to me. I have my superiors. If there is God, He will fight for me,” Thoya said.
Abisack declined to comment, stating she was in a meeting, while text messages sent to her went unanswered.
Menza now seeks intervention to resolve the matter and ensure justice is served.
