Kenya National Police DT SACCO Unveils Modern Gym Facility at Kiganjo Police College

The Kenya National Police DT SACCO has officially commissioned a modern fitness centre at the National Police Training College in Kiganjo, reinforcing its commitment to the holistic development of law enforcement personnel.

The gymnasium, launched during a vibrant ceremony, drew attendance from key dignitaries including Cabinet Secretary for Co-operatives and MSMEs, Hon. Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya, EGH, State Department for Cooperatives Principal Secretary Mr. Patrick Kilemi, CBS, Acting Deputy Inspector General Mr. Patrick Tito, the SACCO’s Chairman Mr. David Mategwa OGW, HSC, DSA, ICUDE, SACCO CEO Mr. Solomon Angutsa Atsiaya and College Commandant SAIG Nyale Munga.

The gym will play a vital role in nurturing athletic talent within the service and serve the wider regional community, positioning the facility as a centre for both fitness and personal development.

A Hub for Physical Excellence…
Outfitted with the latest cardiovascular and strength-training equipment including treadmills, cross-trainers, resistance machines, and free weights, the gym is tailored to meet diverse fitness needs. Dedicated zones for functional fitness, boxing, and team-based drills will allow both recruits and seasoned officers to engage in specialized training regimes.

Importantly, the facility is open not only to officers in training and active service, but also to their spouses, underscoring the SACCO’s broader wellness agenda.

Commandant Nyale Munga confirmed that the gym would be seamlessly integrated into the college’s physical education curriculum. “We aim to graduate officers who are not just mentally alert, but physically robust,” he said.

Government Commends SACCO’s Bold Investment…
Cabinet Secretary Oparanya praised the initiative as a transformative contribution to law enforcement and sports development.

“This isn’t just a gym it’s a symbol of forward-thinking leadership. It reflects how SACCOs can uplift public service through strategic investment in people,” said the CS.

Part of a Broader Strategy…
The Kiganjo facility is the latest milestone in KNPDTS’s growing portfolio of investments in sports and wellness infrastructure.

In 2024, the SACCO funded the construction of a multi-million-shilling stadium in Nairobi’s South C area, now the official home ground of the Police FC and the Police Bullets two teams that recently dominated the 2025 league season. The stadium has since become a key venue for national-level football matches and a training base for elite athletes.

With over KSh 1 trillion disbursed in loans, dividends, and services to members over the years, KNPDTS is positioning wellness as a pillar of its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) agenda.
