Governor Sakaja Pledges Improved Drainage, Water Supply for Nairobi Residents

By Shadrack Nyakoe

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has assured residents of ongoing efforts to enhance infrastructure, address drainage issues, and tackle water rationing in the city.

Speaking during a Sunday service at St. Peter Enoka Legio Maria Church in Dandora, Embakasi North, Governor Sakaja highlighted rehabilitation projects currently underway in Parklands and other areas. He emphasized the County’s commitment to improving mobility and drainage systems.

“We are rehabilitating infrastructure across the city. Works are ongoing in various areas as part of our efforts to resolve drainage and mobility challenges,” said the Governor.

Specific plans include the expansion of the stormwater drainage system along Kipande Road, set to begin this December. The project aims to provide a permanent solution to drainage problems on Ojijo Road.

In the interim, the County has implemented a temporary reliever to ease the pressure on the main trunk.

Governor Sakaja also urged residents to refrain from constructing stalls on drainage and sewer lines, as such actions obstruct water flow and exacerbate flooding issues.

On water rationing in Dandora and other parts of Nairobi, the Governor reassured residents of improved supply with the completion of the Northern Collector Water Tunnel. “The Northern Collector, which will add 140 million liters of water daily to our grid, will ensure a more regular supply of clean water to your homes,” he said.

The Governor also praised the community for utilizing the Dandora Stadium facilities effectively. “It’s encouraging to see the stadium in full use, with matches played every weekend, including the Sakaja Super Cup finals scheduled here. The youth are also benefiting from the stalls at the stadium. We are investing in more facilities like this across Nairobi to nurture talent and skills,” he added.

Governor Sakaja’s remarks reaffirm his administration’s commitment to addressing key urban challenges while promoting community development and youth empowerment initiatives.
