Jowie to be sentenced on Wednesday next week

By Antynet Ford

The sentencing of Joseph Irungu popularly known as Jowie in the gruesome murder of Monica Kimani has been pushed to Wednesday next week.

This after Justice Grace Nzioka faulted the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Jowie’s family, and legal team for filing their written mitigating arguments late.

Nzoika made the directive to also facilitate Jowie’s new lawyers’ time to respond to a pre-sentencing report and submissions by Monica Kimani’s family.

Jowie was convicted over the murder last month while his co-accused Jacque Maribe was let off the hook.

The two were jointly facing the murder charge.

During the Judgment last month, dated 9th of February 2024, Maribe was acquitted and Irungu was found guilty.

During the trial, the prosecution called a total of 36 Witnesses and all the accused persons were out on a bond of Sh2 million plus one surety.

After the judgment, Irungu’s bond was canceled, and had been remanded at Industrial Area prison.

The DPP has since filed an appeal against the acquittal of Maribe.
