Kenya National Police DT SACCO Set for “A Thriving & Sustainable Future”
Registered on 20th November 1972 and now with a membership of over 74,000 members and an asset base of Kshs 59.8 Billion, the Kenya National Police DT SACCO is one of the biggest SACCO’s in the country. The member-centric organization has over the years shown its commitment to members by offering tailor-made products and services to meet the needs of its members, leveraging technology to enhance operational efficiency, member experience and service delivery and ensuring good returns. The Kenya National Police DT SACCO, during its Annual Delegates Meeting launched its 2025-2029 strategic plan which focuses on member centricity, institutional sustainability and a better world to live in with a new vision of a thriving and sustainable future as Corporate Watch Magazine’s Swao Mururi narrates.
The Kenya National Police DT SACCO has set the stage for a thriving and sustainable future with the launch of its 2025-2029 strategic plan focusing on Member Centricity, Institutional Sustainability and A Better World to Live In, building on the accomplishments of its 2020-2024 roadmap.
The new strategic plan 2025-2029 emphasizes member-centric services, institutional sustainability and a broader commitment to societal well-being signifying the SACCO’s commitment to a society where people actively participate in collectively owned businesses and organizations, promoting economic equity, social justice, and community empowerment.
A society where everyone has a voice in decision-making and benefits from shared prosperity, rather than just relying on traditional hierarchical structures; essentially creating a more inclusive and sustainable way of living through collective action.

In the year 2024, the SACCO disbursed KSh 2.6 billion in loans to members, invested significantly in technology to enhance service delivery and expanded its offerings to meet evolving needs of its members. This new strategic direction reflects a dedication not only to rewarding members today but also to ensuring long-term growth and resilience in an ever-changing economic landscape.

Performance
The SACCO’s total assets rose by more than KSh 5 billion, reaching KSh 59.8 billion, up from KSh 54.2 billion in the previous year underpinned by a strong financial foundation, as evidenced by a GCR rating of A- for long-term stability and A2 for short-term performance.
Loans and advances to members increased by 10%, rising to KSh 50.3 billion from KSh 45.6 billion recorded in 2023, while revenue saw a 12.9% rise to KSh 9.9 billion up form 8.8 billion in 2023. The SACCO’s core capital also grew by 10.4%, reaching KSh 19.8 billion from Ksh. 17.9 billion in 2023.
The Kenya National Police DT SACCO posted growth in net profit from KSh 2.47 billion in 2023 to KSh 2.51 billion for the financial year ending December 2024.
Interest revenue from loans and advances increased from KSh 8.09 billion in the previous year to KSh 8.86 billion during the same period. The SACCO Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Solomon Angutsa, attributed the growth in profit and interest revenue to efficient member service and empowerment.
Dividends and Interest Rebates
In the year under review, the Kenya National Police DT SACCO approved a payout that includes a 17% dividend rate on share capital, totalling KSh 624.2 million and an 11% interest rate on deposits, amounting to KSh 3.3 billion. The total of KSh 3.9 billion in dividends and interest on deposits was declared at its Annual Delegates Meeting (ADM), marking a 9% rise from the KSh 3.6 billion distributed to members in the year 2023. This increase, a testament to the SACCO’s commitment to its members.

Reacting to the exemplary results, Chief Guest Principal Secretary State Department of Cooperatives Mr. Patrick Kilemi noted that with 74,000 members and an asset base of Ksh 59.8 billion, Kenya National Police DT SACCO is one of the largest and best-performing SACCOs in the country. He urged the Delegates to ensure that members’ savings are well-managed, reaffirming the Ministry of Cooperative’s commitment to supporting innovation, fostering collaboration, and advocating for shared resources to ease the cost-of-service delivery within the SACCO sub-sector.
Governance, Training and Review of Products
For the fourth consecutive year, Kenya National Police DT SACCO was honoured as the best managed SACCO in the country during the 2024 National Ushirika Day celebrations reflecting the society’s dedication to upholding good governance and professional practices.
The SACCO also received an impressive GCR rating of A- for long term and A2 for short term issuer ratings with a stable outlook. Further, the society was recertified with the ISO9001: 2015 certification for another three years from October 2024.
“The society holds strong emphasis on member education, with education programs undertaken to best savers at regional, national and international level.
In 2025, the society plans to roll out countrywide education programs for delegates and national best savers,” announced the Chairman adding that the Board, Management, and staff will participate in various learn-and-share programs locally and internationally.
As a member-centric organization, the society ensures members get best value proposition possible and has reviewed its credit facilities to align with member needs and expectations.

Technology and CSR…
In the year under review, the society reviewed its technology roadmap and subsequently, several initiatives are underway to improve IT systems to enhance operational efficiency, member experience and service delivery.
In the year 2024, 52 students sponsored under the mentorship program for the students of deceased members sat for their KCSE exams with 48/52 (92.3%) attaining university entry requirements.
The society further supported the education sector with infrastructural development at Utumishi Primary school with the construction of four classrooms and a multipurpose hall. At the Utumishi boy’s academy, the canopy gate and associated works whose construction had started the previous year was handed over to the school.
In a bid to enhance the National Police College in Kiganjo’s training facilities resources, the society in 2024 undertook to construct, equip and brand a gym for use by the students and staff of the college which awaits official handover. In addition, the SACCO supported the college with a water tower and storage tank.
‘As we move into the future, I wish to affirm the society’s continued support to the Environmental Social Governance (ESG) agenda as espoused by the Society’s Strategic focus on a better world to live in,’ concluded the Chairman.
As the Kenya National Police DT SACCO looks ahead, it is poised to redefine cooperative excellence by enhancing digital services, expanding member education programs and introducing financial products finely tuned to its members’ needs.
