Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata is emerging as the top candidate to assume the Deputy President position, should the ongoing impeachment motion against DP Rigathi Gachagua succeed.
With over 291 MPs reportedly backing the ouster motion, Gachagua’s chances of survival appear slim, leaving little room for resistance.
Kang’ata is being considered for the role due to his strong leadership track record during his first term as governor.
Under his administration, Murang’a has seen significant progress in sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, and education. His reforms in healthcare and efforts to dignify agriculture have positioned Murang’a as a model county, often cited for benchmarking by other regions.
Kang’ata’s political journey has been marked by steady growth, starting as a councillor, moving to MP for Kiharu, then Senator, and finally Governor. Notably, his career has been free of scandal, with no corruption allegations to his name, earning him a reputation for integrity and transparency.
As political discussions continue, many in Mt. Kenya are looking to Kang’ata as a potential “savior” for the region, given his spotless record and leadership qualities.
Could he be the next leader to step in and steer Mt. Kenya in the right direction? Time will tell.
