Police have arrested four men who visited World record marathon holder Kelvin Kiptum’s home four days before his fatal accident.

Confirming the arrest, Keiyo South Sub-County Commander Abdullahi Dahir said the arrested men who were yet to be identified were detained at Kaptagat Police station, Elgeyo Marakwet County before being transferred to Iten where they will be questioned further.

He revealed that the four have been identified to be from Uasin Gishu County.

“The four have been taken to Elgeyo Marakwet for further Investigations. It has been confirmed that they all come from Uasin Gishu County.” The OCPD stated.

The arrest comes after Kiptum’s father Samson Cheruiyot revealed the details of what transpired before his son’s untimely death in a road accident along the Kaptagat-Eldoret highway.

Speaking to the press on Monday this week, the heartbroken dad recounted four strangers who showed up at his home inquiring about the deceased athlete.

The twenty-four-year-old will be buried at his home in Chepkorio North West Kenya.

Kenya’s sports ministry is expected to take charge of the burial in consultation with the family.

Sports CS Ababu Namwamba said Kiptum was a national hero who “will be honored in death as he was in life”.

Kenya’s parliament held a minute’s silence in honor of Kiptum on Tuesday.
