AAR Insurance names Tom Mshindi as Board Chair

Veteran journalist and manager, Mr. Tom Mshindi, has been appointed Board Chair of AAR Insurance Kenya Ltd, replacing Mr. Kiprono Kittony who has served for over 6 years and retired.

 

Also appointed to the Board, as a Non-Executive Director, is Ms. Beatrice Soy, former HR Director at Kenya Electricity Generating Company Limited (KenGen). She replaces Dr. Catherine Ngahu who has retired after serving her full term.

The board thanks the two outgoing Directors for their exemplary service to the company.

Mr. Mshindi is the immediate past Group Editor-in-Chief and Executive Director of the Nation Media Group, a post from which he retired in December 2018. He previously was the Chief Operating Officer of the Nation Media Group and the MD of Monitor Publications Ltd in Uganda.

Before that, he was the Group CEO of Standard Group (2003-2006) and also served twice as the Vice Chair of the Media Owners Association.

He also worked at UNICEF as a communications manager and editor, serving in New York and in West Africa.

Mr. Mshindi brings vast experience from his stellar career cutting across journalism, media and development communication both locally and internationally. Mr. Mshindi has served in many boards and AAR Board is confident that he will infuse his rich experience into the company as it strives to closely engage its partners and stakeholders to drive the company’s agenda forward.

The new chair holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Post Graduate Diploma in Mass Communication from the University of Nairobi, and two AMP certificates from Strathmore Business School and from IESE in New York, among other professional qualifications.

Ms. Soy, a Fellow Member at IHRM and leading HR Manager previously worked at KenGen and Kenya Power and Lighting Company as HR Director, and as a senior administration official at the Teachers Service Commission. She is currently a Director at Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) and Sanbeats Services Limited, a HR consultancy firm.

She brings invaluable experience from the public sector having worked for over twenty years in leading government agencies.

The Board congratulates Mr. Mshindi and Ms. Soy on their new appointments and looks forward to working closely with them in steering the company in an increasingly competitive market landscape as the organization looks to invest in a robust digital and product development strategy.
