Baraza Media Lab, in partnership with Ngartia, has announced the second edition of its Civic Canvas series, set for November 15, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Baraza Media Lab.
Civic Canvas is a collaborative project celebrating the artistic expressions born from Kenya’s civic movements in 2024, focusing on how art can capture, inspire, and critique the ongoing struggles for justice and human rights in the country.
The inaugural Civic Canvas event showcased powerful works of poetry, music, photography, and storytelling, all embodying the resilience of Kenyans committed to social change.
This unique series has provided a platform to honor those affected by state repression, while highlighting the creativity and dedication of artists who have amplified their voices.
The upcoming event will feature a panel discussion titled “Misinformation as Corruption,” presented in collaboration with Fumbuake, Baraza Media Lab’s governance and accountability initiative.
This discussion will bring together media professionals, civil society advocates, and political commentators to explore how misinformation and corruption undermine the integrity of public information.
Attendees will also experience stirring poetry performances and a photo exhibition, both artistically engaging with the theme of misinformation as a corrupting force.
These works draw on real events and reflect the emotional landscape of Kenya’s civic action, offering a powerful reminder of the importance of truthful storytelling in the fight for accountability and transparency.
