In a recent appointment that has garnered widespread attention, Hon. Blessings Mlowoka has been named the Deputy National Director of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Malawi. With an impressive blend of academic excellence, professional expertise, and humanitarian passion, Mlowoka brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
Academic Achievements
Mlowoka is a distinguished scholar with an extensive academic background. He holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Disaster and Emergency Management, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Management, and a Postgraduate Diploma in International Disaster Law and Legislation. He has also earned a Diploma in Urban Planning and Resilience and a Certificate in GIS and Remote Sensing. Additionally, Mlowoka has authored and published over four journals and academic papers in his areas of expertise.
Professional Career
Mlowoka has held key roles in government and has worked with several prominent local and international organizations, including COOPI (Italian), GOAL Global (Irish), Self Help Africa (Irish), and the Red Cross, serving in both junior and senior positions. He is a registered and chartered international business and social consultant, with experience collaborating with institutions such as the World Bank, UN agencies, and influential global business leaders.
With over nine years of experience as a cross-border businessman, Mlowoka has a proven track record in international business development. He is also actively involved in various boards and networks, both locally and internationally, contributing to initiatives that focus on environmental sustainability, economic empowerment, and public health.
*Leadership and Affiliations*
Mlowoka serves in over eight boards and networks, including roles as Senior Fellow of the Global Evergreening Alliance, Senior Fellow of the Global Mental Health Network, Vice Chair for the African Charter for Economic Affairs on Youth and Women Empowerment, and Malawi Representative for the African Granary Initiative. He is also the Country Lead for MedAccess India, among other influential positions.
A PhD scholar and researcher in development economics (2025-2027), Mlowoka continues to demonstrate a commitment to academic growth and development.
Humanitarian and Community Engagement
Beyond his professional achievements, Mlowoka is a dedicated humanitarian. As a Scout leader, Rotarian, and long-time volunteer with the Red Cross (spanning over 25 years), he has devoted his life to uplifting marginalized communities. His leadership roles include serving as President of the University of Livingstonia Rotaract Club, President of the Skyways University Student Body, and Head Boy at Katoto Secondary School from 2000 to 2003.
Mlowoka’s passion for humanitarian work is deeply rooted in his commitment to ensuring that the rights and lives of the less privileged are protected without discrimination based on race, tribe, religion, or culture.
