Businesses Halted in Kisii as Youth Swarm the Streets in Anti-Ruto Demos

Kisii woke up to another round of Anti-Ruto Demos on Tuesday as agitated youth, some visibly drunk, took to the streets to demand President William Ruto reform his government.

Others called for him to relinquish power due to the spiraling cost of living in the country.

Dozens of protesters gathered at the Capital Roundabout, blowing vuvuzelas and chanting anti-Ruto slogans.

They marched through the streets, carrying placards with messages like “Our lives matter.”

South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro, a key Ruto ally from the region, was also criticized by the protesters, who accused him of misleading the region into supporting Ruto during the last general elections.

“Look, that bottom-up agenda was all hogwash. Can you imagine I cannot afford even an underwear today,” one protester said.

Bororo stated that the conversation was no longer about the controversial finance bill, which has since been shelved, but about the resignation of the president.

“That’s our agenda now, not the finance bill, and he should do so now,” he told journalists.

Josephine Bosire, a university student, expressed disappointment that Ruto had not appeared remorseful enough regarding the recent killings of youth involved in violent anti-tax protests in Nairobi.

“He has not given us the way forward even after he was asked to give them a state burial. I am hoping there shall be no other deaths today,” she said.

Police presence around the county capital streets remained low as the protests built up by 9:30 AM. At least three officers were stationed at each supermarket in town to prevent looting.

Business at the main grocery market downtown started slowly, with most traders keeping off for the better part of Tuesday morning due to Anti-Ruto Demos.

Those doing business around the Capital Roundabout were forced to quickly close as protesters swarmed the area.

Some boulders were also erected at the roundabout as the demonstrations continued and vehicles were not moving as leading roads were closed.
