Detectives from DCI Katulani in Kitui County have successfully apprehended a murder suspect believed to be the mastermind behind the brutal murder of Lucy Kambu Mwenda in Kalimani village, Kathunguni sub-location, on May 22, 2024.
On that tragic night, Mwenda was found dead in a pool of blood outside her property’s perimeter fence.
She had been stabbed twice in the back of her head, and blood was seeping from her mouth.
At the scene, investigators discovered critical evidence: a blood-stained machete, a light blue jug, a paper bag with a broken egg, and a note in Kamba placed atop an empty cup.
After extensive intelligence gathering, officers tracked the main murder suspect.
Their efforts culminated in the arrest of Vilonicah Mueni, who was traveling on a white canter truck from Mombasa to Nairobi.
In collaboration with DCI Mtito-Andei, the officers intercepted Mueni at the Mtito-Andei police roadblock as she attempted to bypass a checkpoint.
Mueni was arrested and subsequently arraigned at the Kitui Law Courts. She has been remanded at Kitui GK Prison pending a mental assessment.
The case is scheduled for mention and possible plea-taking on July 23, 2024.
