The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Renson Ingonga, hosted a delegation from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), led by Regional Representative Ms. Ashita Mittal, to evaluate the progress of the partnership between the two institutions aimed at enhancing access to justice through effective prosecutions.
This meeting was part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen interagency collaboration.
The UNODC has been instrumental in supporting the DPP’s office through the Programme for Legal Empowerment and Aid Delivery in Kenya (PLEAD I). Their collaboration has led to significant initiatives, including the development and implementation of the Uadilifu Case Management System, the formulation of key policy documents such as the Diversion Policy and Plea-Bargaining Guidelines, and capacity-building programs for staff.
Additionally, the partnership has resulted in the establishment of containerized offices in Winam and Shanzu, as well as the provision of a motorboat in Lamu to facilitate the movement of prosecutors.
Ms. Mittal expressed her appreciation for the strides made by the DPP’s office in advancing the administration of justice and reaffirmed UNODC’s commitment to continuing its support for these initiatives.
