In an operation aimed at curbing theft from locked motor vehicles, detectives from the Nairobi regional headquarters have apprehended a four-man gang that stole Ksh 850,000 from a locked vehicle in Langata.
The arrest followed thorough investigations prompted by a report at the Langata police station. The report was filed by a resident of South C- Green Estate 2, who lost part of his money after withdrawing it from a local bank on July 17, 2024.
The victim had left the money inside his locked motor vehicles and went shopping at Uchumi supermarket in Langata.
Upon returning, he found his vehicle broken into and the money, stashed in a khaki envelope, missing.
CCTV footage from a nearby business revealed that the four-man gang, in a white Suzuki Swift with registration number KDB 771T, had broken into his car and fled with the money.
Detectives from the elite CRIB and Operations units launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of Shaban Maingi Rashid, Steve Malvin Njagi, Johnson Muisyo Mbingu, and Mashud Onyango Dax, also known as Sudi.
At the time of their arrest, the four were in a Suzuki Swift with registration number KDH 154B.
A search of the vehicle revealed a master key and another set of number plates, KDP 989N, matching the vehicle’s insurance details.
Further investigations revealed that Shaban Maingi Rashid had previously been arrested for similar offences in the Langata area and has ongoing court cases.
