Mombasa Catholic Archbishop Martin Kivuva Musonde has challenged religious leaders to stop sitting on the fence when things in the country are not moving in the right direction.
He called on the religious leaders to come out and point out mistakes the government is making and the effects on the taxpayers instead of sitting on the fence.
“We are perturbed by Auditor General Nancy Gathungu’s report on the Social Health Authority (SHA) where the government lacks a share,” he said.
Kivuva has asked the government to come out and tell Kenyans where the money being contributed to SHA is going.
He was addressing the media during the marking of Ash Wednesday (the first day of Lent) at the Holy Ghost Cathedral in Mombasa county.
The Catholic Archbishop told religious leaders to stop keeping quiet on corruption and other malpractices in the country.
Kivuva urged them to push the government to resolve numerous challenges facing the country’s leadership.
He added that those who are supposed to know what is happening are not telling Kenyans the truth.
“The country’s health scheme challenges will be a major discussion for a few months to come,” he pointed out.
The Mombasa Catholic Archbishop told the media briefing the religious leaders must come out and speak when wrong things are happening in the country.
Kivuva asked the government to come up with a solution to what is facing the controversial health scheme.
He asked the Kenya Kwanza administration to tell Kenyans where sh 3 trillion has been spent for the past seven months arguing that the government has a duty to explain.
“Apart from reading in the newspapers somebody has a duty to explain to Kenyans where the money has disappear to,” he said.
The Catholic Archbishop said the worse thing in the Auditor General’s report is that the government is not a shareholder of the health scheme.
