A chilling video has emerged capturing a Kenyan police officer, reportedly part of the Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission in Haiti, in the hands of suspected gang members.
The incident unfolded on March 25, when a routine patrol by the Haitian National Police (HNP) along the Carrefour Paye-Savien Main Supply Route encountered unexpected danger.
According to MSS spokesperson Jack Ombaka, the officer vanished around 16:30 hrs after the HNP’s armored vehicle became immobilized in a ditch suspected to have been deliberately dug by criminal elements.
In an attempt to rescue the stranded unit, MSS deployed two Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles from Pont-Sonde. However, the situation quickly deteriorated when one MRAP also became stuck and the other experienced a mechanical failure.
“As the rescue teams tried to resolve the predicament, suspected gang members lying in wait launched a brutal attack,” Ombaka stated.
The ensuing chaos resulted in the abduction of the Kenyan officer, whose condition remains uncertain.
Amateur footage, allegedly recorded on a mobile phone, shows the officer lying motionless on the ground while one of the assailants slaps him.
The video, which has since circulated widely on social media, has shocked viewers and raised serious questions about the security challenges facing international peacekeepers in Haiti.
Local authorities and international partners have launched an urgent investigation into the incident, while the MSS mission continues to grapple with the volatile environment dominated by rampant gang violence. The disturbing nature of the footage and the officer’s disappearance underscore the perilous conditions faced by security personnel deployed in the region.
The Kenyan government, along with its international counterparts, have vowed to leave no stone unturned in finding the missing officer and ensuring accountability for those responsible.
